Case Study: How To Do 4+ Months Of An SEO Campaign In 30 Minutes (Possibly One Handed)

Image result for laziness gif

Welcome to a celebration of laziness. Well, it’s not really laziness so much as it is systemization & automation that came from an embarrassing amount of time developing systems, vetting profiles, and configuring and testing our in-house link solutions. That being said, we are about to see how long we can get away with set-and-forget SEO.

The following case study takes a relatively new site with ZERO backlinks, and attempts to build up it’s strength, brand, trust, keyword relevance and rank for keywords. This will be done solely by purchasing and applying our own link building services, a series of premium link building packages that we crafted for our campaigns, that were made to conform to stages of local SEO linking. Since we created different packages for different stages and scenarios, our link building packages can be used without much thinking to help any site according to what it needs, no matter the current backlink profile.

Here’s what we consider to be best practice stages of linking for a local SEO campaign:

  • Rank for brand – build high authority links with branded anchor text
  • Build authority & trust – build a lot of high authority links with naked URL – i.e. Web 2.0s. This creates a wonderful base of links and preps the site to safely add keyword relevant anchor text links without risking over-optimization penalty
  • Citations to rank in Maps – not really a component of linking as citation profiles don’t always include links but let’s put it here anyway as it’s a critical element for local SEO
  • Build keyword relevance – send variety of keyword relevant anchor text as well as keyword in URL links. This can also be done from getting links from content relevant websites which is harder to do but always effective.
  • Get more power and keyword relevance – links from sites that with high Trust Flow, referring domains & content relevance (PBNs & Guest Posts). These links can either point directly to the money site, or can more safely be directed at existing authority links to power up those links in a tiered manner (highly effective).

Case Study Setup

PREFACE & NOTES

  • We have been using our in-house link packages for many different projects with much success in rankings. However, this is the first time we’ve taken a site from scratch with no links at all, and ONLY applied our link services in full – there are no other SEO methods applied (no social signals, no traffic manipulation).
  • This case study doesn’t really apply the links in different stages regarding timeline of when the stages are done… we are just going to apply each stage all at once or as fast as possible without throttling links.
  • This case study had a few documentation difficulties:
    • I recorded short videos using Loom, however Loom cut off some of the beginning time of some videos
    • I forgot to take good screenshots in addition to the video, so I used screenshots of the videos themselves
  • We use Ahrefs to track metrics. Ahrefs just changed their DR metric so gauge DR change from this study and not what current DR is.

CONDITIONS & SETTINGS

  • Site has no links, no social signals.
  • Links are NOT going to be throttled – just pile em on! 😀
  • Anchor text strategy will be modest – our goal is to safely build a foundation of strength and keyword relevance for the site
  • Fulfillment by purchasing our own services and simply filling out the forms

October 27th, 2017 – Update

  • Summary:
    • Only a few days after starting, and I realized I screwed up the Brand anchor text. My team is fast so the Anchor Boost was already done, so I just purchased another with the correct Brand variation… yes that was a really, really stupid mistake, but shouldn’t be irrecoverable.
    • Stats haven’t done much, in fact Ahrefs rank has gone slightly worse (likely due to other sites moving ahead of this one rather than adverse effects of any links made yet).
  • Metrics:
    • DR: 23
    • UR: 5
    • RD: 1
    • Ahrefs Rank: 86,818,001
    • Avg Keyword Position: 68
  • New Actions Being Applied:
    • Realized I entered the Brand incorrectly for the previous Anchor Boost (woops) so I re-purchased Anchor Boost w/ CORRECT Brand
    • Purchased SEO Wrapper
    • Delegated about 30 Citations

Average KW Position

  • Summary:
    • About at 4 months now and still heading up…..Now I’m torn. I want to see this site creep up further without doing anything but I’m also growing impatient and really want to send some more links to the other SEO wrapper profiles (the ones other than the Focus Wrappers). But, as I seem to enjoy the long-plays in life, I’m going to let this thing sit and see what happens.
  • Metrics:
    • DR: 23 (ahrefs just changed their metric)
    • UR: 36
    • RD: 101
    • Ahrefs Rank: 7,178,400
    • Avg Keyword Position: 26
  • New Actions Being Applied:
    • I thought I was going to put some more links on this but I’m not. Just going to sit and see what happens.

Assessment **Updated Jan 29th, 2018**

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE RESULTS

The site’s made some big moves. It still has a ways to go, but I’m eager to see what it does considering Google movement is slow anyway; hopefully it will keep creeping up!

I’m thrilled that link throttling (or the lack thereof) doesn’t really seem to matter. I’ve always thought link velocity is a good practice but perhaps not critically important – we don’t have enough data from this study to decide anything about it for sure.

FURTHER FUTURE STRATEGIES

Considering that we added power conservatively (powering up our authority links rather than pointing PBNs directly to the site) the site is poised for some direct PBN or Guest Post links (Guest Posts are always welcomed as they are WH etc..). I’m confident that adding a PBN link or 2 or a couple guest posts would rocket it up since it has such a strong foundation of links and authority, but I want to wait a little longer before adding more links to see where it goes.

Also, there’s something I’ll like to do before adding any PBN or Guest Post links… the SEO Wrapper has more power potential if you know how to use it. Collectively it has 15 unique wrapper profiles! (I can’t believe I’ve never pointed that out before…). All of the profiles in the SEO Wrapper are interlinked to the Focus Wrapper level, however the other sub-wrappers are all interlinked a bit differently and has a different collection of profiles in it. THIS MEANS is you can keep sending PBN or somewhat spammy power links to ANY of these wrappers and it should continue to send link juice throughout the profiles to some extent. Find your favorite PBN outsourcer and go nuts. THAT sounds like fun.

THOUGHTS ON HOW TO USE SERVICES WITH CLIENTS

I would recommend applying one or maybe a couple of these services each month. Considering you get around 350 links by ordering all the services in total, you have plenty to report on each month, and our link reports are something you can be proud of – the links remain live due to our system of vetting and removing easily deleted profiles (link here).

I will perhaps segment out the Socials package so instead of getting 250 links all at once you can do them in 3 groups of 80 so you can throttle links a bit more and stagger their power ups.
